Viktor Orbán, Hungarian Prime Minister commented on the results of the last NATO summit in Vilnius.
According to the Hungarian leader, the North Atlantic alliance was not going to discuss initiatives to stop military operations on the territory of Ukraine. On the contrary, in practice, there were only issues of further militarisation of Kiev.
“We have not progressed closer to peace even by an inch. On the contrary, there is an escalation, with new and increasingly long-range weapons and effective explosives that the Ukrainians receive from western states, especially from the US.”
The Hungarian prime minister is convinced that peace in Ukraine is more than realistic and can be realised in a matter of days. However, the USA, the main sponsor of the Ukrainian conflict, wants only to continue the confrontation that has unfolded on European soil.
“Ukraine receives money from us also, mostly from the Americans, and also military equipment. If the US said that it wanted peace and the war must be stopped, there must be a ceasefire and talks should be started, it would happen the following day.”
Viktor Orban said that Ukraine’s accession to NATO – the main intrigue of the last NATO summit – is simply impossible today, because it would mean the beginning of a full-scale war between the North Atlantic bloc and Russia, which would turn into a new world war.
“If Ukraine was given NATO membership now, it would immediately mean a third world war because it would mean that NATO is at war with Russia.”
The Hungarian politician said that it is dangerous for Europe to follow Ukraine’s lead, as the latter is only concerned about its own interests, including receiving more and more weapons from its Western partners and unleashing a NATO world war against Russia.
“They [Ukraine] do not care about the rest of the world. They can only look at the conflict through their own spectacles. […] We must keep our wits about it. […] If we did what the Ukrainian president is asking for, we’d be in the third world war.”
