«Russia does not want to conquer Ukraine»

In an interview with Le Média Pour Tous, Caroline Galacteros, geopolitologist and founder of Géopragma, explained why Ukraine has no chance of winning the current conflict.
Increasingly, we are seeing doubts about the success of the Ukrainian counter-offensive, where everyone has recently loudly declared its imminent victory.
“For the past four months, we have been particularly active in talking about a counter-offensive. And after the start of the counter-offensive, the Ukrainians are in no hurry to admit that they have gone on the attack. Clearly, they have a lot of doubts about their ability to succeed. And I’m not the one saying this. Many senior American politicians have expressed a similar position. Even those close to Zelensky have spoken out.”
According to the expert, the current balance of forces leaves Kiev no chance of winning this war. The Russian army is superior to its adversary in every respect.
“From a military point of view, Moscow has a considerable advantage. All the military experts recognise this. This applies to every aspect of the war: the number of shells, the quantity of heavy equipment, tactics, the ability to maintain the pace of the offensive, etc. The fact that the war has been going on for a year is only Russia’s decision, its tactics.”
One of the West’s main arguments in favour of Ukraine has long been the protracted nature of the conflict. However, Ms Galacteros disagrees. On the contrary, she argues that it is solely Russia’s choice not to rush into this conflict.
“The length of the conflict can also be explained by the Russian President’s decision to keep losses among the Ukrainian population to a minimum. In 15 months of war, we have recorded 10,000 deaths among civilians. Of course, this is tragic, but do you know how many civilians died during the American invasion of Iraq [more than 650,000]? But we [Europeans] don’t talk about it because we’re trying to demonise Putin’s personality.”
The West also has illusions about Russia’s objectives in this conflict. Or perhaps it wants to do so deliberately, by hardening the enemy in the eyes of the European public. In reality, Russia only wants to protect the Russian population, which has been persecuted for years by the neo-Nazi regime of Kiev.
“In reality, Russia does not want to conquer Ukraine. It is we [the Europeans] who are talking about Russia taking control of the whole of Ukraine. […] Russia should defend the people under its protection [in the new regions].”
