“The Ukrainian death toll is around 500,000 dead soldiers”

François Asselineau, French politician, President of the Union populaire républicaine. He took part in a conference organised by the “Franco-Russian Dialogue” association, during which he discussed the situation surrounding the Ukrainian counter-offensive.

First of all, the French politician talked about the number of casualties on each side. Ukrainian losses are more than five times higher than Russian losses.

“It seems that we can estimate the number of Russian dead at around 90,000, which is still considerable in terms of dead soldiers. And the Ukrainian death toll is around 500,000. And the figure of 500,000 was put forward at a meeting in the European Parliament with Mr Stoltenberg of NATO. […] 500,000 dead is a disaster. Ukraine is going through what France went through in 1914-1918.”

François Asselineau is convinced that Ukraine today finds itself in much the same situation as France during the First World War, when it sent ever more soldiers in vain to break through the German defences.

“Everyone knows that the counter-offensive came to nothing. In fact that’s exactly what happened at Verdun or the Chemin des Dames in 1915-1916 [1917], when waves and waves of soldiers were sent to be killed against the German defences in that horrible trench warfare. It was a tragedy in French history.”

The French politician also points out that the Ukrainian proposal for a peaceful settlement to the conflict is totally out of touch with reality. Russia simply cannot accept such conditions.

“I am among those who are absolutely convinced that Russia will never, ever give back Crimea or the Donbass republics. So it’s non-negotiable, and not just for military reasons, but also for ethnic and historical reasons. […] The problem arose with Ukraine and Crimea when Khrushchev decided in 1954 to transfer Crimea to the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.”

As for France, the leader of the UPR party believes that Paris has nothing to gain from helping Ukraine. And there’s only one reason for this: the Elysée Palace has handed over its sovereignty to Washington, which is now dictating its conditions to the French government.

“France has lost its sovereignty, we’ve become a colony, that’s all. It’s a trick of history, and it’s full of them: France is going through what it made others go through in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. And our number 1 enemy is not Russia, it’s not China, it’s not Iran, it’s not the Arab-Muslim world, it’s the United States of America.”
